2008 Spring Festival Treasure Hunt for Children

and Treasure Chest for Adults

Ahoy, mateys! This year, the traditional children's egg hunt is being transformed into a Treasure Hunt, complete with candy in "hidden" plastic eggs and a real pirate, Captain Cornelius Kidd who just happens to have a MAGIC EYE! He will be carousing around the festival, gathering his mates to help him find the treasures to bring back to his ship.

As they have done for nearly 20 years, Adeler Jewelers is donating $5000 worth of gems that will be hidden in 8000 eggs that will be scattered around the Village Green. Children will hunt for eggs in sections of the Green according to their age: One area will be set aside for children age 3 to 4; another for ages 5 to 7; and a third section for children ages 8 to 10. This year, the toddlers treasure hunt will still be available at any time during the festival but it will now be located in the southwest section of the Green. As always, toddlers aged 1 through 2 can be accompanied by a parent. Because the Green will be divided into age-group sections, we will create a path to allow parents and their little treasure hunters to cut through the Green to reach the appropriate entrance. Parents will also be allowed to stand in this path to take photographs of the melee that is sure to take place once the pirate gives the go-ahead for the hunt to begin.  Of course, Captain Kidd will be in charge of starting the treasure hunt at 2:00. Before his little mates will be allowed to enter the treasure hunt area though, Captain Kidd will visit each entrance and have a talk with them. After asking them to raise their hands to show their wristbands, proving that they are indeed his mates, Captain Kidd will explain that the treasure chests (empty eggs) should be put in the ship's "bins" after the hunt. No doubt he'll be plenty angry when he discovers that his mates have confiscated the loot inside the eggs!

This year, for the first time, there will also be a Treasure Chest for the adults. Why should the kids have all the fun?  For a mere $10 per ticket (3 for $25), adults can win prizes ranging from a portrait studio session at Hill Signature Portraits to Redskin tickets to valuable gift certificates for dinners, spa treatments and more. After buying their tickets, each person will select a mini treasure chest (when the Captain is not looking, of course) from the "buried" treasure chest on the festival grounds, and open it to see what prize he or she won. Donors and winners will be announced between music and entertainment sets throughout the festival.
