Great Falls Optimist Club Celebrates its 25th Anniversary With an Old-Fashioned Barn Dance

The Great Falls Optimist Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary on Saturday, October 1 with an old-fashioned barn dance, complete with a live band and great barbecued ribs and chicken.

Club member Linda Thompson donated the use of her refurbished bank barn on Walker Road in Great Falls for the successful event. The Thrillbillies Band entertained over 70 people from Great Falls and the surrounding area, filling the barn to capacity. Famous Dave’s Barbecue provided the food, while Mal and Linda Zerden helped get people on the dance floor with instruction in a barn dance and simple swing dance steps. After that, the dancing crowd was on their own.

“We had a spectacular time,” said Club President T.R. Cook.  “It’s not every day you get to have a great party and dance in an old barn like this.  Linda has fixed it up with lights, a stage, and country-style decorations that created the perfect ambiance. Even the weather cooperated,” he noted.  “We’ve had loads of positive feedback from people,” most of whom came dressed for the occasion in jeans, cowboy boots and hats, he said. “Our anniversary gave us a great excuse to throw a unique event. Maybe we won’t  wait until our 30th to do it again.”
