Benefit for Nick Cafferky, Great Falls Student Left Paralyzed After A Swimming Accident

On Sunday, October 21, 2007 we held a barn dance that raised $8,000 for the Nick Cafferky Medical Fund.

Nick, a 17 year old Langley student, was playing in the surf in Dewey Beach, DE when he broke his neck on August 12, 2007.  He remains paralyzed from the chest down. Nick’s lungs were severely compromised from seawater and he spent 51 days at Christiana Hospital in DE recovering from his injuries .  On Tuesday, October 2nd, Nick was moved to Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore to begin the hard work of physical rehabilitation.  Nick will post regular updates on his progress on www.NickCafferky.org  under “Nick Speaks”.   His mom (Elisa) will provide additional color commentary under “E Speaks”. 

In addition to our own fundraiser, others in the community are rallying behind the cause to raise funds through other activities, including a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, a 5k race, tee shirt sales, and more. The Great Falls Optimist Club has offered to serve as the collection point for funds raised so that contributions can be tax deductible.

Box 233, Great Falls, Virginia 22066. Checks should be payable to the GFOC Foundation, and the memo line should note "Nick Cafferky Medical Fund." Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
