Great Falls Optimist Club Holds Huge Rummage Sale

Saturday, April 12 , 2008 at Krops Crops

The Great Falls Optimist Club held a huge rummage sale Saturday, April 12 from 8 am to 2 pm at Krops Crops, 1110 Georgetown Pike in Great Falls.  Proceeds from the sale funded the youth-oriented activities supported by the Club, such as Kidz Clubhouse, a local nonprofit that provides summer camp and respite care for developmentally disabled young people.

“We collected items from numerous families for weeks,” said George Hersey, Club coordinator for the sale. “We had everything from clothes to furniture to electronics, and prices that can’t be beat!” The Club accepted donated items on Saturdays from 10 to 1:00 prior to the sale, which was held in the Krops' Crops building.  Owner Larry Krop generously allowed us to use the building to store and sell items for the sale.  “There’s plenty of parking, and we were under cover so inclement weather wouldn't  pose a problem,” Mr. Hersey noted.

“We haven’t held a rummage sale for several years,” said Club President Lisa Jackson. “People have been very generous with their donations of terrific items, so we were hopeful that this turned out to be a successful fundraiser for us.” She noted that the Club has been able to support many worthwhile activities and programs through the years, including the recent Nick Cafferky Special Needs Trust, Kidz Clubhouse, meals for needy families at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hannukah, and seed funding for a Great Falls Teen Center.
